Turning 32...

Turning 30 sounded scary, but 32… Thankfully I feel no different. I have an amazing husband and friends who made turning 32 easy and fun. It all started with my actual birthday. Justin gave me my first present in the car on my way to work, but didn’t actually get a chance to open it until I got to my office. Once I finally did, it was one of the Harvey’s Steamboat Willie bags. Then my co-workers and I made a nice big breakfast. After work, I came home to roses, a bottle of wine, steak and Netflix. A nice relaxing night, just what I needed.

I took the next day off because Justin had a birthday surprise for me. During the day we were originally supposed to go to DC, but it was cold and windy so we stayed local. It was a pretty relaxing day, lunch at Dogfish Head Alehouse where we ended up running into a couple friends. After lunch we headed home to watch a couple of episodes Altered Carbon before getting ready for dinner. Of course dinner was a surprise. I had no idea where or what we were doing. Justin had one more gift for me to open in the car which was a custom Newsie’s bag from one of my favorite shops on Instagram called @stinkymonkey4eva which was a clue to what dinner was. After sitting through an hour of traffic we finally arrived at Toby’s Dinner Theatre. We went in and were seated at a table with two older ladies. Dinner was buffet style and smelled great. We ordered drinks and started a conversation with our tablemates until our table was called to grab food. After enjoying dinner, I was ready for the show to begin. The show began and it was great. I couldn’t stop mouthing the words to every song. During the intermission I ordered a second drink which was called the Bottom Line – a cookies and cream vodka milkshake. It was so delicious. After the show was over, we headed home.

The next day, finally Friday! I went to work just like any other day. I was excited for 5 o’clock to roll around because several of my coworkers were meeting me for happy hour to celebrate my birthday. We didn’t have to go far. We went to Sugo’s. I enjoyed a glass of wine with sliders and fries. One of my coworkers grabbed me a custom cake from Harris Teeter which was absolutely delicious. The cake was a white chocolate cake with raspberry filling. I’m not a fan of fruit in my cake, but this was yummy. We then headed home to pack for the weekend.

Saturday is here and it’s time to road trip to WV. Now I know 4.5 hours is not technically a road trip, but I hate sitting in the car for that long so it feels like a week for me. We were heading to Parkersburg, WV where our friends Eva and Eric live with their two kids. We grabbed a quick bite from Chick-fil-a in Frederick before hitting the road. We managed to cut a half hour off our drive and arrived a bit early, so we decided to head to Eva’s work and surprise her. She gave us the grand tour and we hung out for a bit before heading to her home. The kids had no clue we were coming so we were a bit of a surprise to them. Shortly after arriving we watched their YouTube videos on their previous Disney vacations. The kids have grown so much! I was looking forward to dinner because Eric was using his new smoker to make us yummy pulled pork with homemade coleslaw and crispy waffle fries. This was perfect since we were having game night with some of their friends, one of which had an upcoming birthday. We tried pepperoni rolls for the first time, we were told they are a WV must have. I enjoyed some Sierra Nevada IPA’s before switching to an Iced Coffee wine which was pretty interesting. After hours of ridiculousness, our ages started getting to us as we realized it was way passed all of our bedtimes! The friends left and we headed to bed.

Bright and early Sunday morning, the smell of Death Wish coffee filled the house as Eric started on breakfast. I had mentioned in a text message in the weeks leading up to my birthday I wanted Funfetti waffles on my birthday, which my husband did not make me, but for a good reason. Eric wanted to try making them for me from scratch. They were dense, but so yummy. We obviously had to cover the Mickey shaped funfetti waffles with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. After enjoying our yummy breakfast, we got ready for the day. I seemed to be the last one to walk into the kitchen where a surprise was waiting for me. A Mickey Ice Cream Bar cake! How perfect is this? An actual delicious tasting cake shaped into a Mickey ice cream bar. I was so excited; I forgot where the mickey ice cream bar tattoo on my arm was located. We sat down and enjoyed a nice big slice before dropping off the kids at Eva’s mother’s house and then heading to the movies to see Blockers. Blockers was so funny. Justin dropped the Jeep keys in the theater which would have sucked if we didn’t notice they were missing before we left the mall. Thankfully we shopping the clearance sale at Hot Topic when he noticed they were missing. We made our purchases and then headed back to Eva’s mothers house to pick the kids up for a late lunch. All I knew is we were heading to a brewery. We ended up going to Marietta Brewing Company in Marietta, OH. I had never been to Ohio so this was something that was a must for my birthday weekend. The food was delicious and the Hazy IPA was hoppy with lots of flavor. I even took a 32 oz. Growler home with me. This unfortunately, brings our weekend to an end… We had a 4.5 hour drive home which thankfully neither of us fell asleep on.

We did receive a phone call from my mother in law when we were about 45 minutes out that our dog Clu was not eating and didn’t seem like he was feeling so good. We got home and checked his glucose levels were through the roof. We gave him his shot hoping it would help. He was extremely weak to the point he could not stand. We tested his blood two more times before he started having issues breathing. We tested his blood again after his levels went down and they had unfortunately gone back up. We rushed him to the emergency vet where we had to make the hardest decision… We decided we could no longer let him suffer. He will be missed.

To sum up my weekend it was incredible until it had to end. I couldn’t have asked for better friends. I am so grateful that I found true friends, whom I would have never met without Instagram. I have no idea what tomorrow will bring, but 32 has already had its ups and downs.
